Week 7 Lecture: 3 Acts Structure

Week 11 Lecture: Transitions

PROJECT 3: Original comic plot, comic cover & animated one-page intro

Project 3 brief:

Original comic plot

The making of comic cover

Figure 1.1: Comic cover sketch 1

Figure 1.2: Comic cover sketch 2
Before making the actual cover, I did some rough sketches to visualize the ideas in my mind.

Final comic cover

Figure 1.5: Final comic cover, "The Mysterious Her"

Based on the comic plot I wrote, there's a rumour about her being two-faced and she's actually a psychotic person behind the scene, so I visualize that in my cover, which the white colour silhouette of her is her normal side, and the upside-down black colour silhouette at the bottom is her rumoured psychotic side.

The making of comic panels

Figure 2.3: Drawing the hair by using brush tool based on the sketch

Figure 2.4: Eyes and lips, using pen tool and brush tool to track the sketch

Figure 2.5: Using brush tool to draw the dark silhouette with messy lines

Figure 2.6: Using direct selection tool to adjust the lines surround the dark silhouette

Figure 2.7: Doing colouring, using gradient tool to make shades on lips

Figure 2.8: Eyes & lips
Since I want to animate her eyes and lips into a smiling expression, so I drew another two panels for the smiling expression, I will combine them into GIF.

The making of animation

I used a video editing app, CapCut to add an animation of a camera recording frame.

FEEDBACK
About the comic cover and comic panels sketch:
- The red lip colours are not really visible with the red background, perhaps can change it to black colour lips
- Play more with the composition, all the elements on the cover are too centralised, maybe the question mark or the title can reposition to left or right side
- Can consider animating the camera recording frame

REFLECTION
Doing this project is quite a challenging task for me since I am not really a good storyteller and also not really used to doing creative writing, so I have used quite a while of time to create a story. I feel like I should have done better with the shading since the shading is barely showing in the comic. But overall it is nice to have this experience to create a comic with my original plot, since I never had experience drawing comic before, so it is nice to step out of my comfort zone.
