INSTRUCTIONS (MIB)

PROJECT 1: INSTRUCTABLE INFOGRAPHIC

Referring to the assignment brief requirement, I look up to Pasta Grannies channel on Youtube, and I chose the video below as the recipe for my infographic:
It is about a lovely granny named Domenica from Italy, cooking a traditional Italian cuisine: gnocchi with tomato sauce. After watching this video, I just realized that there is such special cuisine in Italy, so I decided to choose this as the recipe for the infographic.

Figure 1.1: Sketch of gnocchi making process
Following the flow of the video, I did a step-by-step of gnocchi making process, for having a better visualisation for my infographic.

Figure 1.4: Colour palette references for my infographic
Since I was kind of lost in choosing colour palette, I look up to the palette from Adobe Colour for a certain direction. I decided to choose my colour palette based on gnocchi's colours.

Figure 1.5: Working space on Illustrator
After finish the illustration, I arrange them into the poster following the flow process in my sketch. I placed the main cooking stage of the gnocchi + tomato sauce in the middle, while the two preparing stages for tomato sauce & gnocchi are on the left and right. To emphasise the cooking stage in the middle, I make the elements bigger than the preparing stage elements (also a reference from my visual reference).

Figure 1.7: Arrange each step into different artboard
For making animation in After Effects, I first arranged the elements from the poster into different steps and then separated the layers.

REFLECTION

I quite enjoy making this infographic since I always like the process of arranging layout, and I also feel satisfied with the outcomes. But I did meet some difficulties when doing the illustration for the poster, because some of the elements are quite difficult to draw, such as the pile of flour on the table. So I end up using the free elements online for the elements that I was incapable to illustrate. The animation took quite some time to make since I messed up some transitions, so I had to refine them one by one, but fortunately the result doesn't look too bad.
