Final Project: Brand Merchandising

INSTRUCTIONS (MIB)

Final Project: Brand Merchandising

This project is a continuation of project 2, which is the spring roll wrapper packaging. The merchandising design has to reflect the brand and the packaging design from project 2. We are required to create 5 merchandise items including a pop display.

My merchandise items idea is: Plate, tote bag, paper bag, lunch box, and chopsticks (also wanted to make stickers but Mr Shamsul banned it)

The reason why I chose these items is because they related to food:
1. the plate can use for placing spring roll wrap
2. chopsticks for eating them
3. lunch box can use for putting in spring roll wrap
4.  paper bag or tote bag for putting the lunch box

These items also fit the idea of sustainability, which is also the core value of using banana blossom flour in the wrapper to reduce food waste, as people often just throw away the banana blossom.

Figure 1.1: Visual references
I looked up some visual references. Looking at the pattern design reference and the paper bag design reference, I think the idea of creating a brand pattern can be effective, as I can place them on every piece of merchandise to create a certain consistency.

Figure 1.2: Merchandise sketches
I did some rough sketches to form the idea in my mind, and I saw a vision in the pattern design.

For the pattern design, I incorporated the banana blossom graphic and the same colour palette from the project 2 packaging in the pattern design.

FEEDBACK

Week 11
- If want to use the pattern design make sure keep it consistent on every merchandise

Week 12
- Interesting pattern, the designs overall look consistent

REFLECTION

This final project is less stressful compared to project 2, as I already have the information ready from project 2, which gave me some clues to proceed to design the merch. I thought about what makes sense for the spring roll wrapper brand and landed on a plate, tote bag, paper bag, lunch box, and chopsticks. These aren't just random picks, they're all about the food experience – serving, carrying, wrapping, eating. And bonus points: they all echo the brand value of sustainability. For the designs, I created a pattern design and used the visual elements from project 2 packaging design, combined and arranged them together to make the design look cohesive and consistent. Overall I have earned the experience of identifying the branding direction, and then creating merchandise by doing this project.
